Make It Easier to Look Around: Break Character Focus (Discussion)
I'm mainly a FPShooter game player. The reason I started playing a RPG was to experience a new world. I love looking around and seeing all the amazing things that have been created. I find that most of the things that I want to look at are tall and much higher than my field of view and it is very difficult to look up. From the common camera angle, most of my screen is filled with the boring ground. I do realize that by zooming in to a first person view point, I can look around quite easily, but I don't like playing the game from this view.

Possible solutions:
*Allow the user to adjust the focus of the camera. Currently it seems to be focused on the head of the character. By being able to raise it about 3 feet over the character's head, looking up would be much easier because the camera would no hit the ground as soon and prohibit upward looking.
*Create a modifier key that would allow the camera to point in any direction from where it is currently. For example, if the camera is 10 feet behind the character and 5 feet up, by pressing this key, I could look in any direction while the camera remains 10 feet back and 5 feet up (ie, the character is no longer the focus, the camera position has not changed, only where it is pointing). Releasing the key will cause the camera to retrain on the character.

Additionally, I almost constantly have "free camera" and right-click held down because I look around so much. Creating the option to invert the right-click button would be useful. That way, when I want the mouse cursor I could hold down the right-click button. But when I'm not holding it down, then I am looking with the mouse.

; Why this is a good idea
* Allows users to better see the world.
* I've only discussed options, so one could change the behavior or not.

;Why it may not work out
* More programming work for developers.
* Another option in a sea of confusing options.

Don't Change My Camera Angle (Discussion)
The most annoying issue I have with the UI is that the game automatically changes the camera viewing angle that I want. For example, when I'm running along with a hill on my right, I look to the left (with free camera) and my camera slides up the hill and I end up looking down on my character instead of looking to the left.

At the least, this should be resolved by pushing the camera toward the player instead of up the hill. Alternatively, the camera could simply go into the hill and the hill would become transparent. Just please, don't move the angle of my camera. I really enjoy looking around at the world that was created, but it's very frustrating to want to look in a direction and not be able to do so.

; Why this is a good idea
* Allows user to see what he/she intends to see.
* Allows users to better see the world that was created.

;Why it may not work out
* <!-- Outline reasons why this might not work for Guild Wars. -->
Map Improvement (Discussion)
In Guild Wars 2 I would love to see an alphabetical list of cities I've already visited. Sometimes it is very difficult to find things on the map. An alphabetical index would be wonderful!

Another good idea to improve the mapping system is to allow players to add their own "thumbtacks" to the maps with notes. Such as "boss here" or "avoid this area b/c you will die!" In addition to these thumbtacks I would also like to be able to set a "navpoint" to the compass that is popular in most games. Instead of just pinging the map, it would create a "permanent" ping that would help you navigate more easily. PhoenixAvenger 08:16, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

I like exploring every corner of every area. With GW1 maps, when I'm looking over all the area to see if I missed any turns, I find it difficult to see if I could have continued in a certain direction or if there was a mountain blocking my path. I don't want to remove the fog from unexplored areas, but I would like explored areas to be easier to determine if I could have continued in a certain direction. 71.229.150.63 16:26, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

; This is a good idea because sometimes I will spend five minutes or more just looking for a city I need and its very frustrating when you have people waiting on you to do this.
* People who play Guild Wars would like this included because it would save us alot of time and hassle having to search through all the different land masses for a city when we can't remember exactly where it was.

; Reasons why this doesn't need to be implemented
* This feature wouldn't be as much of a help as claimed, as one could easily ask another player for the location of a city if one forgets.

----
Ezekial Riddle's suggestion.
To go along with the map markers idea, perhaps there should be a "map-share" option, where you and someone else will open a map together (but you can only see what you've uncovered). You could then ping locations to each other, such as towns or farming areas.

;Reasons why this may work out
*Simplifies direction-giving.
*Helps RPers find landmarks and what not

;Reasons why this may not work out
*I can't think of any, but I ask that someone please post their criticisms of this specific idea.
Bubble Quote Boxes: Option to Disable (Discussion)
Option to disable those bubble quote boxes. The most annoying situation that these are used is in battle taunts by NPCs. I'd rather watch what is happening in the battle instead of having the battle covered by a black quote box containing a quote which has no importance. It's like watching an action movie but the action is covered by a black box.

Around town, quote boxes from real people are slightly useful so you can see where a speaking character is, but this is more disruptive than useful; you can target a speaker in other ways. Or if by clicking the person's name, you would also target that person (like the whisper function) then the bubble wouldn't be needed at all.

There are important things that are posted in quote bubbles such as info from NPCs while out on quests. These should be double posted into the chat window so the player can read them at his/her leisure and not miss anything interesting. As it is, I often see off in the distance some NPCs saying things to each other, but I'm paying attention to something else at the moment and can't read what they are saying thus missing whatever they said. I've found that they also don't repeat their conversation.

As an example, in the Gates of Kryta mission, when you approach the area in front of the closed gate, there are two NPCs having a conversation on the left about market prices. I also noticed down by the gate, a guard saying something about someone looking familiar. I didn't get to see what the guard was saying because I was paying attention to the NPCs arguing about price. Had those quotes been posted to the chat window or had they repeated their conversation, I would have been able to see it.

; Why this is a good idea
* Provides the option to clear up the view so players can see what they'd like to see.
* Posting to chat window allows players to not miss information that they might find interesting.
* Because this is an option, a person who likes these battle taunts could keep them.

;Why it may not work out
* May be another option in a confusing sea of options.
* Though chat windows are usually clear in explorable areas, it may muddle them up somewhat.
