Candy Cane Shards are fragments of striped candy cane that drop from slain creatures during the annual Wintersday event. They can be used to make Candy Cane weapons, exchanged for Wintersday Gifts, or used to complete the Frozen Accessory Token quests.

Acquisition
*During Wintersday, randomly dropped by PvE foes, except certain Wintersday quest foes such as during In Grenth's Defense and You're a Mean One, Mr. Grenth.
**During The Strength of Snow and Straight to the Heart the Snowmen/Grentches have a heightened drop rate.
*Participating in Dwayna Vs Grenth will earn 3 for each win.
*There is approximately a 5% chance of getting 10 shards from a Wintersday Gift.

Quests
*Prophecies or Nightfall
**A Humbling Gift
**The Polar Depressed

*Each round of the Wintersday finale game costs one Candy Cane Shard to participate; two to five Candy Cane Shards can be won.

Trivia
*During Wintersday 2006, a collector for shards was added after the finale.
*In Wintersday 2007, the shard collectors were added in the beginning of the event, being available at all decorated towns.
*Prior to Wintersday 2010, many of the Wintersday quests introduced before Wintersday 2010 awarded Candy Cane Shards instead of Wintersday Gifts.
*In the decorated towns prior to the December 15, 2011 update, you received 1 shard for picking up a Present and giving it to a Young Child. This update also removed the ability to acquire a Winter Gift, which had approximately a 5% chance of getting 1 shard from.
*Wintersday Hat Givers appeared and collected shards after the last Wintersday finale from 2009 to 2011.
*The Dwayna Vs Grenth automated tournament awarded 7 shards per win.
