It will be good that all the characters in one account to share a "family name" and a character name should be made of "name" and "family name". Nowadays, players give their characters a lot of stupid names and as someone said here, it is always necessary to open the guild roster or the friends list to see who is whispering you. Once a family name is set for all characters, the player will have to choose only a name. Family names should not be changeable during the game, but the name can have an option to change it if you don't like it.
Example of names "David The Great", Funky the Great" or "Miki Masmer", "Torry Masmer" or "Hill My See", "Ble My See".

; Why this is a good idea
*  It is easy to recognize a player from his/her family name.
*  Players will think to make family name that he likes best, not deleting characters in search of a "cool name".
*  This family name could be added to Heroes' names, making them more personal.
*  It's all good, but I think you SHOULD have an option to change the family name... Deleting all the chars to create a new family name...
* I practically did exactly this in GW1, Nephilimus and Swift each with 2 chars with that surname, so i think it could definitely work, and could be one of the last things added to the game so there is still plenty of time to do it *wink wink* ANet

;Why it may not work out
*  Some players may get bored with the name and than have to delete all characters for creating a new family name.
* People can already do this voluntarily, forcing them to do it would not help anything.
* Removes naming flexibility.
* The suggestion on changing the family name may creat issues, especially in identifying scammers etc... but without that ability could easily lead to a character not liking their characters and having to remake them all.
