You can kill some of the bandits and wolves first if you want to reduce [[loot scaling]]. Worms spend more time buried underground (they cannot be killed then) than on the surface, so you'll have to wait until they pop up. A damaged worm will however not bury or if it was planning to, it will pop up as soon as possible.
