The Crystal Sea was once a body of water located in southeastern Tyria and northwestern Elona. It was the home to the Margonites who built their vast civilization on the islands they found on the sea. The Temple of the Six Gods could also be found here.

On the year that the Human Gods left the mortal world, the floor of the Crystal Sea was raised so that all water was emptied into the ocean, creating the Crystal Desert and the Desolation as they are today known.

Shortly after that time, the Margonite civilization began to collapse and died out on Tyria. The wreckage of the ships once used by the Margonites can still be found scattered in the Crystal Desert, most seen in Thirsty River, as well as outposts constructed by the wood of these ships.
