New page

Emotes are a special subset of chat commands which cause the player character to perform a social action, playing an associated animation and logging a description of that action into the chat window. For commands that do not cause character animations, see special command.

Some emotes have unique animations for different professions. The most striking example of this is the dance emote, which initiates a different type of dancing for each profession and gender. Using any Dervish avatar forms adjust your character's profession/gender specific emotes as do many of the disguises in the game.

Likewise, changing your character's appearance with a disguise by using a tonic or mounting a creature, such as the Junundu (obtaining the Desert Wurm disguise), can alter the effects of animations or give you access to extra animations. For example, tonics will often have a death or knock down animation available by using the emote /sit followed by the ESC key or the emote /stand.

Divine Aura triggers during certain emotes if your account has Prophecies Collector's Edition.

1. Unlike animations, the text displayed in the chat window matches the player character and does not change while under the effects of a form or disguise.

Advanced usage
Emotes may be synchronized with other players by appending an asterisk (*) to the emote command, such as "/dance *". Emotes that are synchronized in this way start on a five second interval rather than starting immediately. Thus, anyone who issues the emote command within that five second interval will start the emotes' animation at the same instant.

The game sometimes requires you to use an emote to fulfill a task. For example:
* Use /kneel to summon an avatar at statues of the gods, speak to Glint in Droknar's Forge, garden during Cash Crops or Garden Chores, and find Gwen's flute during Then and Now, Here and There.
* /dance to distract Elder Nofuun during A Burning Desire, play with the Wintersday Moa, as one of the activities in Tihark Orchard, or to see the easter egg during Abaddon's Gate.
* /shoo away the Flamingos in Flamingo-ing... going... gone.
* You need to mimic 10 emotes to defeat Lumo the Mime during Tihark Orchard and several if you wish to play with the Mad King during Halloween.

After performing the emote, you should see a reaction; however, not all reactions are good. For example, when playing rock, paper, scissors with the Mad King, if you get the wrong hand gesture, your character will die (any deaths induced by the Mad King do not count towards your death count in the Survivor title track).

Trivia
* Emotes get their name from the verb "to emote", which means "to show or pretend emotion."
