Comparison between regular exploration and exploration under Bird's Eye View
In addition, if the current area has been fully explored while under this effect, the player character will shout once one of the following phrases. Similar to hero quotes, this text appears briefly as a speech bubble and does not appear in the Chat window.
- "The fog in this region has finally lifted. I can see all the way to the horizon."
- "No stone left unturned. No wall left unhugged."
- "Another map complete. Let me be careful not to smudge my signature this time..."
- "I've seen all there is to see here."
Every 10s, if there are unmapped areas around the player, blinking blue dots will appear on the compass to better locate the center of these areas.
Notes
- This effect is obtained by consuming a Bird's Eye Compass or by using an Infinite Bird's Eye Compass.
- It lasts permanently in the current instance and persists through death.
- Though the detection range increases, there are "hard" map limits and the area that can be mapped is often more or less the same as exploring without it.
- Bird's Eye View can still uncover a small number of areas to the north that non-Bird's Eye View cannot.
- Bird's Eye View can uncover normally unaccessible remote locations considered explorable by the game. Notable such areas can be found in:
- The Frost Gate (Rurik's path),
- Ice Caves of Sorrow (all around the path towards the boat).
- Jaya Bluffs (the remote village),
- Tahnnakai Temple (explorable area) (northeast),
- Imperial Sanctum (remote banish areas),
- Churrhir Fields (southwest, east and northeast),
- Fahranur, the First City (northwest),
- The Mirror of Lyss (north)
- Areas beyond portals or closed gates can sometimes be unlocked while under Bird's Eye View, reducing or removing the need for portal jumping and gate glitch.
- Some areas don't benefit from the increased detection range, requiring regular exploration.
- Areas that can be uncovered by walking on structures such as piers, boats (e.g. at the beginning of the Consulate Docks mission).
- A few (rare) explorable slivers on the borders of the map.
- It is thus possible to have unexplored areas despite the character shouting the sentence.
- This effect also works in areas that do not contribute to the titles, such as dungeons (more area will be displayed on the Mission Map), pre-Searing or the Isle of the Nameless.
- If the area has already been fully explored, the player character will shout the sentence a few seconds after using the compass.
