Each new slot enables you to add a new character to your account with full access to all of the content your current characters enjoy.

— in-game description

A character slot refers to the allotment of potential characters an account can create. Every character created on an account occupies one character slot. A character slot may be used to create either a PvP-only character or a (PvE) roleplaying character.

The service costs $5.99 USD.

  • All accounts get two slots, even if they have no playable content (an unusual situation)
  • Each campaign owned grants an additional two slots
  • Maximum purchasable from the Guild Wars Store is 26

The maximum number of character slots is 35 with a limit of 26 purchasable separately.

Nightfall pre-order 1 35

Notes

Bug Bug.After adding a character slot to an account the character selection screen may temporarily show twice the number of available slots. Logging out and back in resolves the issue.
  • In the Manage Access Keys window, Additional Character Slots lists all slots beyond the base account, so this number can be as high as 33.
  • The Eye of the North expansion does not include any additional character slots.
