Focus item

This article is about the weapon category. For the pre-Searing Ascalon item, see Focus (pre-Searing).

A focus item is an off-hand weapon that grants an energy bonus to the character wielding it.

Properties

• Equip: Off-hand
• Linked attributes: Any Monk, Necromancer, Mesmer, Elementalist, or Ritualist attribute.
• Maximum energy: 12
• Upgrade components: Focus Cores and inscriptions.
• Inherent bonuses: Focus items that drop in Prophecies or Factions can have an inherent bonus rather than an inscription; these include bonuses that are not available via inscriptions (e.g. +8 armor vs. Trolls).

Energy based on requirement

Focus items only provide the full amount of energy to characters meeting the item's attribute requirement. If that prerequisite is not met, then the amount of energy provided depends on the source of the item:

+6

• Any random drop that provides at least 6 energy.
• Unique items from quest rewards.
• Reward items from the Bonus Mission Pack.
• Nightfall and Eye of the North: unique items with maximum stats and those from collectors and weaponsmiths.

+3

• PvP reward items.
• Non-green focus items from quest rewards.
• Unique items from end-game rewards (e.g. from the Amulet of the Mists).
• Prophecies and Factions: uniques and those from collectors and weaponsmiths.
• Nightfall and Eye of the North: non-max unique items.
