A battery is an unofficial term used to describe a party member whose primary role is to supply energy to party members and allies.
In most cases, this is done with the energy regeneration granted by the elite skill File:Blood is Power.jpg Blood is Power, from the Blood Magic attribute line. As a result, a battery is most often a primary necromancer, and is also referred to as BiP.
In rare cases, battery can be used to describe team members supplying energy with other skills, such as Blood Ritual. By extension it can also describe a party member whose primary role is to supply adrenaline instead of energy, from skills such as Dark Fury.
